This project required the adjustment of a busy dual carriageway close to Wolverhampton city centre and the inclusion of a new pedestrian crossing to both sides and within the central reservation. Existing granite kerbs had to be lifted and re-laid, bus stop adjustment, dropped crossings with tactiles, ducting and infrastructure for new traffic signals for the crossing point.
Traffic management was employed to provide the workforce with a safe working area by closing lanes off in phases outside of traffic sensitive hours. Works had to be completed and made safe daily so as the full dual carriageway could be opened back up to traffic at the end of each shift. Working around existing live services and maintaining traffic and pedestrian routes was challenging but careful planning of the works in phases provided minimal disruption to local residents and businesses. Innovative solutions had to be found for laying 6 way ducts across the dual carriageway which had to be reinstated and ready for traffic each day within the 6hr window available.
